This is probably something you don’t want to hear just before a huge New Years’ Eve binge, however here it is:
A research journal published by BMJ (British Medical Journal) has concluded that consuming more than two alcoholic beverages a day could significantly increase the risk of contracting cancers.
BMJ found that even slightly more than the recommended amount of alcohol consumption significantly increases ones risk. In fact, as many as one in 10 cancers in men and one in 33 in women are already directly connected to drinking alcohol.
“Our data [from eight European countries found that] shows that many cancer cases could have been avoided if alcohol consumption is limited to two alcoholic drinks per day in men and one alcoholic drink per day in women, which are the recommendations of many health organisations,” the report says.
The top four cancers caused by alcohol consumption are:
- Cancer of the pharynx
- Cancer of the esophagus
- Cancer of the larynx
- Liver Cancer
